Pain is a common experience for many individuals living with physical and psychosocial disabilities and can have a significant impact on mobility, independence, participation, and overall quality of life. Pain may arise from underlying health conditions, altered movement patterns, reduced physical activity, muscle weakness, joint stress, previous injuries, or changes within the nervous system.

For individuals living with disability, pain can create additional barriers to completing everyday tasks, engaging in meaningful activities, maintaining social connections, and achieving personal goals. In some cases, pain may also contribute to increased fatigue, reduced confidence, sleep disturbance, and difficulties with physical and emotional wellbeing.

At Neurovia, we understand that pain is influenced by a wide range of biological, psychological, and social factors. We take the time to understand the whole person, not just their diagnosis, and work collaboratively to identify the factors contributing to pain and reduced function.

Our clinicians provide individualised, evidence-based assessment and treatment aimed at improving comfort, physical function, confidence, and participation in daily life. Treatment may include pain education, exercise therapy, movement retraining, pacing strategies, mobility training, equipment prescription, carer education, and support to develop sustainable self-management strategies.

We commonly assist individuals living with:

  • Physical disabilities (e.g. cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, limb loss, muscular dystrophy, and other conditions affecting mobility and physical function)

  • Intellectual impairment

  • Neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury, Guillain–Barré syndrome, and peripheral neuropathies)

  • Psychosocial disabilities (e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and major depressive disorder)

  • Complex and multiple disabilities

  • Long-term health conditions associated with persistent pain

Our goal is to help individuals maximise their independence, improve participation in meaningful activities, and enhance quality of life through compassionate and person-centred care.
