Pain in Neurological Conditions

Pain is a common but often overlooked symptom experienced by individuals living with neurological conditions. Depending on the diagnosis, pain may arise from changes within the nervous system itself, muscle stiffness and spasticity, altered movement patterns, joint stress, reduced mobility, or secondary musculoskeletal injuries.

Pain can significantly impact mobility, independence, participation in daily activities, sleep, mood, and overall quality of life. Unfortunately, it is often accepted as an unavoidable part of living with a neurological condition, despite there being a range of strategies that may help improve comfort and function.

At Neurovia, we understand the complex relationship between the nervous system, movement, and pain. Our clinicians combine expertise in both pain management and neurological rehabilitation to identify the factors contributing to your symptoms and develop an individualised treatment plan tailored to your goals and needs.

Treatment may include education, exercise therapy, movement retraining, management of spasticity-related symptoms, equipment prescription, positioning strategies, mobility training, and interventions aimed at improving function and reducing the impact of pain on everyday life.

We commonly assist individuals experiencing pain associated with:

  • Stroke

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

  • Parkinson's disease

  • Traumatic brain injury

  • Spinal cord injury

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Peripheral neuropathies

  • Guillain–Barré syndrome

  • Functional neurological disorders

  • Other neurological conditions

Our goal is to help you better understand the causes of your pain, maximise your physical function, and improve your quality of life through a personalised and evidence-based approach to care.
